In 2016, the off-road community became aware that some Veterans were interested in finding out more about the "wheeling experience," from a civilian perspective. As well, some Veterans did not have much to even afford an enjoyable weekend away. Getting away was something quite a few of them needed. Not only to kick back with fellow Veterans but to do something fun that they could relate to.
In a very short amount of time, plans were in place to head up to Minden to enjoy a weekend of camaraderie and to get to know people outside our typical crowd - both for Wheelers and for Veterans.
In 2016, the off-road community became aware that some Veterans were interested in finding out more about the "wheeling experience," from a civilian perspective. As well, some Veterans did not have much to even afford an enjoyable weekend away. Getting away was something quite a few of them needed. Not only to kick back with fellow Veterans but to do something fun that they could relate to.
In a very short amount of time, plans were in place to head up to Minden to enjoy a weekend of camaraderie and to get to know people outside our typical crowd - both for Wheelers and for Veterans.
Needless to say, the two groups hit it off right away. It didn't hurt that some Veterans were also Wheelers who helped to bridge the divide. What's not to like when neither group is afraid to get out in the woods or to push the envelope! The Vets who had been involved with vehicles in the field had no trouble hooking up a winch and picking the right lines. Wheelers were comfortable with anyone who shares their enthusiasm.
We evolved, in 2019, to become an incorporated non-profit organization, 4 Wheelers 4 Vets Inc., overseen by a committed membership of Wheelers and Veterans. We bring the skills of both groups to support Veterans in need of emergency funds throughout the year, as well as to plan our fundraising activities, including the annual wheeling event that started it all! We also collaborate with other Veterans' support groups to meet a Vet's need when it arises during the year, to the best of our ability.
